Let's face it, kids get hungry, and as growing children, they get hungry a lot. However, it isn't a good idea to always give them unhealthy foods to snack on like "Dunkaroos" and "Fruit by the foot." Often at times it feels easier to just give kids a snack that comes out of a package in a box to feed their snack cravings, but this isn't always the best option for children's health. Therefore, to combat children's hunger in a better way, let me introduce to you three healthy Nutella toast recipes that are incredibly simple, delicious, and healthy!
All three of these recipes require toast, Nutella, and fruit. You can use whatever type of bread you like to make the toast, but I would recommend rye bread because it is made with sourdough rather than yeast. Starting the bread with sourdough instead of yeast gives the bread a low glycemic index, so that means it won't spike your blood pressure and insulin levels.
It is a great idea to let your child help you create these snacks, depending on if they are old enough. One reason you should let your child help you is that, by helping, they are learning how to make a basic snack for themselves. Also, by allowing the child to spread the Nutella over the toast, they are learning fine motor skills in their fingers and hands to build strength in those areas. This way, children get to be part of the creative process and learn basic skills! However, I would suggest not letting your child cut the fruit if they are too young.
The Almond Apple Toast
The first recipe is made with apples. All you have to do is toast the bread, spread Nutella over it, and then cut the apples into thin slices to put over top. The Nutella is sticky enough to make the apple slices stay on the toast, and it is a chocolaty goodness that your child is bound to love!
The Strawberry Nutella Slab
The second recipe is exactly like the first, but with strawberries instead! Do everything the same as if you were making the apple recipe, and instead put the strawberry slices on top to finish it off. Yum!
The Banana Bliss
Just like the prior two recipes, this one works the exact same way, but instead of strawberries or apples, you are putting slices of banana on top! This one is our personal favourite.
All three recipes are great for children of all ages. Children are bound to enjoy the chocolate Nutella toast with their choice of fruit. Also, if you want to get wild, go ahead and try other fruits on the Nutella toast instead! Not only is this a great snack, but it is also a good breakfast alternative as well!
